The real problem with cyber security training for staff of all levels

One of the most unexpected incidents that can occur within your organisation probably won’t occur in the physical workplace. It will most likely happen in a loungeroom, café or airport lounge. It’s user-error induced Cybercrime.
Human error causes:
- 93% of all incidents
- 84% of all breaches
A lost, unattended or misused laptop, tablet or phone has become one of the most threatening objects in any company’s inventory. Even a minor cyber breach can quickly escalate into a situation where bad actors are selling your data to competitors, holding you to ransom or even logging on to start interfering with your operations.
Even the largest and most ‘digital’ firms are finding themselves the subject of cyber breaches – with significant consequences. Twitter is just one high-profile company that recently admitted to suffering a major security breach that saw hackers take control of the accounts of major public figures and corporations, including Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and Apple.
Watch the video to see how cyber breaches most commonly occur:
The question is not ‘How do I stop hackers getting into staff devices?’
The question really should be ‘How do train my staff to treat their devices like they’re the keys to the company safe?” And the answer is not more education or training. Most ‘security awareness’ programs are like running a school with no exams.
You may be delivering the training at scale, but you have no way of telling if it is being understood, much less whether it is being acted upon. You certainly can’t tell if your risk profile is decreasing. It’s critical to close the loop on education and training to assess the impact of your threat mitigation efforts across your entire workforce.
A security dashboard that monitors – and improves – user behaviour
Empired’s User Secure Score provides real-time views of individual users’ security behaviours, including scores, ranking and suggestions for improvement. So you can move beyond the theory of education and take control with real behavioural change, right across your operations – even if that means covering thousands of employees in multiple geographies.
Our experts have been developing this tool in direct response to the needs of some of our clients’ most demanding operational challenges, including:
- Multi-regions and remote sites Highly mobile workforce
- Large reliance on 3rd party transport and logistics (including airline, rail and bus networks)
- Incredibly varied operating environments (from industrial and rural locations to CBD HQs)
- Surging demand by employees for workplace flexibility
If you want to improve security behaviour – don’t introduce new hurdles for your staff
When faced with an obstacle, humans will always look for an easy way around. Which is why we’ve created our Cyber Dashboard to run on the platforms that most businesses already use: Azure, Teams and M365.
By collecting and analysing user behaviour from the tools your staff use day in day out, our Dashboard is able to build a detailed, real-time view of potential security issues, including weak passwords, lack of MFA and connection to public or insecure network connections.
The dashboard interface is built in Microsoft Teams and present different views of the data to different levels and roles within the organisation.
Talk to Empired about your own custom demo today.
If your operations already run on the Microsoft suite of Azure, Teams and O365, it’s a simple matter to plug in a live demonstration of our Cyber Dashboard User Secure Score. You might be surprised just how far behind the training your staff behaviour is still lagging.
