Data Modeller/Architect


Experienced Azure Data Modeller required for 6 month contract in Perth WA.

  • Must be based in WA
The Data Modeller will proactively work with the solution architects, business owners, business representatives, other systems team members to understand business and governance requirements and to implement solutions to address these requirements.

As a Data Modeler you will investigate source systems and produce data discovery documentation by producing a high-level solution design that transposes to a detailed design producing conceptual, logical and physical data models. The role will demand a highly cooperative approach with other modelling teams in order to ensure successful integration with the enterprise data model shared by all modelling teams.

You will directly work with various business functions to determine the data requirements, how to obtain the data, build the detailed design model interfacing with the cross functional scrum teams to implement data pipelines and data access APIs to ensure that the implemented aligns with design documentation.

You’ll be communicating with different business partners, data governors, developers and other architects to bring the data vision to life.

Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Develops, enhances, and maintains conceptual, logical & physical data models.
  • Determines impact to the Enterprise Data Model (EDM) and refines the EDM as needed.
  • Research data sources for across business data and respective data feeds
  • Participates in business requirement definition and reviews business requests for data and data usage.
  • Responsible for data profiling and mapping of data correctly
  • Participates in design reviews to ensure data model adherence and data standards.
  • Participates in Data Governance function to ensure data stewards concerns are addressed.
  • Ensures all data has a complete and accurate definition.
  • Establishes and monitors data quality initiatives.
  • Work with the Business data owners to document data definitions and business rules
  • Develop or facilitate the development of documentation covering master and key data flows and transformations between systems, including the business rules applied to the data.
  • Participate in all team initiatives to review early data model designs, integration data flows, data uploads and transformation designs and participate in testing.
  • Identify areas for data quality improvements and help resolve data quality problems.
  • Develop processes and procedures for data ownership, data management, integration, replication, and uploads to support ongoing data maintenance and data integrity.
  • Work with business representatives to gather and understand functional requirements and data sources.
  • Design and implement systems solutions in collaboration with other team members, provide advice to management and stakeholders, recommend a course of action for required solutions: solution scoping, requirements analysis, gap analysis, feasibility, functional design, application configuration, technical specification, testing, production deployment, support, and training.
  • Develops & deploys Microsoft Power BI dashboards
Skills & Experience
  • B.Sc. or Business degree or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in elements of data governance: quality, analysis, administration, architecture
  • Experience working as a Data Modeller or Data Architect on data warehousing solutions and cloud technology implementations.
  • Experience working with data visualisation tools, e.g., Power BI, Tableau, etc.
  • Data warehousing and ODS modelling experience is a must.
  • Strong skill sets working with relational databases. Experience with Data Modelling techniques and tools, such as ER Studio Data Architect (preferred) or Erwin.
  • Experience with or understanding of taxonomy management.
  • Experience using modelling tools to convey concepts, architectures, and designs.
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Azure Data Lake Store & Azure DevOps
  • Superior attention to detail

  • Ability to compare technologies and make recommendations to senior members of the team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent inter-personal skills
  • Results-oriented, self-starter, capable of working independently and within a team environment to meet deadlines.
  • Willing to work outside of normal business hours as part of a global team and to travel if required.
Nice to have
  • Qualification in information science, data management, computer science
  • Experience working in an agile software development environment.
  • Knowledge in Azure Ingestion Technologies (Azure Event Hub, Azure IoT, Event Grid, Service Bus, Logic Apps, API Management)
  • General Azure Technologies (Azure Active Directory, Virtual Networks, Subnets, etc.)
  • Knowledge of the mining supply chain and experience working with mining / fleet management data.
