How did the legendary rock band Eagles adjust and transform after a huge change?

Jan 18, 2016 I thought the world stopped. Glen Frey from the rock band Eagles – that I grew up adoring – had passed away, and I was certain it was the end of the road. No more “Hotel California” or “Desperado”. I was absolutely gutted.

But why do I write about a rock band on a blog for an IT services company? What does that have to do with IT and the services we deliver and the transformation we are going through? Quite a bit as I came to realise when I was standing on my feet and singing along to “Take it to the limit” together with 15,000 other fans in Vancouver last week.

The roadmap and working conditions had changed overnight for the band that day in January 2016, but rather than giving up – they executed a plan B, came out perhaps even stronger – and showed the rest of the world that being adaptable keeps you relevant – even if nothing is like it was yesterday. And to my big surprise the band sounded as good as ever.

So for us; when all of the industry is talking about digital transformation – you can dislike the word, because it is most likely overused – but you can’t ignore it. If you do, you are dead. But you don’t have to be a child of the digital age; you just have to pivot differently and adjust. Eagles did it by being forced to replace one of their founding members and succeed. We have to do it – by accepting the fact that big data, machine learning, AI will be the main drivers for the technology spending going forward.

We all know that the cloud is turning existing business models upside down for service companies and for our clients – but if we want to be heard ( just like Eagles), listen to the market demands and roll up the sleeves so we can meet the new client expectations.
