How Databricks can help you access better data services

Empired has announced a partnership with Databricks, the leader in unified analytics founded by the original creators of Apache Spark, to bring Azure Databricks to customers.

Databricks’ founders started the Spark research project, which later became Apache Spark. The company has been working on cutting-edge systems to extract value from big data for the past ten years. Its mission is to accelerate innovation for customers by unifying data science, engineering, and business. It is venture-backed by Andreessen Horowitz, NEA and Battery Ventures, and has a global customer base that includes Salesforce, Viacom, Shell and HP.

How Databricks can help you access better data services

Azure Databricks is a fast, easy and collaborative Apache Spark-based analytics platform, optimised for Azure. It combines the best of Databricks and Azure to help you accelerate innovation.

For Empired customers, Azure Databricks offers you the potential to greatly simplify your big data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, replacing fragmented compute and data science layers and centralising them in one place.

It will let you better leverage your existing Microsoft investment in Azure without the need for multiple Azure platforms. You could be looking at a cheaper, more effective architecture and (coupled with Empired’s existing DevOps practice) no downtime in terms of delivery and governance.

Key features of Azure Databricks include:

  • interactive workspace to bring teams together for everything from data gathering to model creation
  • launch with a single click
  • integration with data stores and services including Azure SQL Data Warehouse, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Data Lake Store, Azure Blob storage, and Azure Event Hub
  • AI capabilities and shared insights through integration with Microsoft Power BI
  • Data protection with Azure Active Directory integration, role-based controls, and enterprise-grade service level agreements
  • fine-grained user permissions for secure access
  • the ability to scale analytics and data science projects globally
  • machine learning to build and innovate faster
  • the ability to scale and add capacity instantly
  • a complete set of analytics technologies to target any size data.

The solution is already in place at Empired customers including LINX Cargo Care Group, where the new platform provides greater visibility over financial, payroll, and operational data, helping staff make better use of these insights.

Empired will look at providing demonstration days across key verticals to show you how the solution can be used with your existing platforms.
