Empired partners with Databricks to deliver better data services to Azure customers

19 June 2019

Sydney — June 19, 2019 — Empired has announced a partnership with Databricks, the leader in unified analytics founded by the original creators of Apache Spark, to bring Azure Databricks to its customers, delivering better data services to Microsoft Azure customers.

Azure Databricks is a fast, easy, and collaborative Apache Spark-based analytics platform optimised for Azure. It combines the best of Databricks and Azure to help customers accelerate innovation with one-click set up, streamlined workflows and an interactive workspace for collaboration between data scientists, data engineers, and business analysts.

Dan Smith, national practice manager – data insights and integration, Empired, said, “Databricks has been hugely successful in gaining investment from massive companies, such as Microsoft. Even before the latest round of funding in February this year, Empired could see the potential of Databricks as an integral building block in data building architecture.

“This solution greatly simplifies big data analytics and artificial intelligence solutions for our customers. It replaces fragmented compute and data science layers and centralises them in one place. We are excited to get behind it and make it a core part of our data services business to increase capability while decreasing cost for many of our customers.”

Part of the partnership means that the Empired team is currently undergoing core training to ensure it is in the best position to deliver the solution to its customer base. Empired will look at providing demonstration days across key verticals to show customers how the solution can be used with existing platforms.

Azure Databricks, delivered by Empired, will let customers better leverage their existing Microsoft investment in Azure without needing multiple Azure platforms. Customers will experience a cheaper, more effective architecture and, coupled with Empired’s existing DevOps practice, no downtime in terms of delivery and governance.

The solution is already in place at Empired customers including LINX Cargo Care Group, where the new platform provides greater visibility over financial, payroll, and operational data, helping staff make better use of these insights.

In addition, Empired is looking at releasing its first out-of-the-box IP for financial accounting improvements on Microsoft’s One Commercial Partner (OCP) Catalog, which was developed based on a customer need identified by Empired.

Dan Smith said, “This partnership further demonstrates Empired’s expertise in Microsoft cloud-based data solutions. Empired is now the only Australian-owned Microsoft Gold partner in nearly every capital city in Australia with Databricks partnership. Empired is also currently on the Microsoft Data Service foundation accelerator path and the Internet of Things accelerator program.”
