Community Smiles launches new website created by Empired

26 June 2019

Sydney — June 26, 2019 — Western Sydney-based charity, Community Smiles, has launched its new website, which was created by digital transformation and technology services provider company, Empired.

The new website was created to address a need for Community Smiles to have a professional, accessible online presence that made it easy for people to find the information they needed and to donate to the poverty-driven charity. As the charity has grown, so has its need for funding from private donors and the government. A key step was to develop a reputable online presence that positioned Community Smiles as a professional and viable organisation.

Sarah Cuzner, president and board chair, Community Smiles, said, “Professionalism was critical to Community Smiles’ ability to attract donations and government funding. Community Smiles needed to spend less money on advertising and less time explaining its work to potential donors. Empired created a site that provides all the information a donor or volunteer needs, and lets people donate safely online using PayPal.”

Empired developed the website for Community Smiles as part of its commitment to good corporate citizenship. One of the key benefits of the new website is that Community Smiles now has deductible gift recipient (DGR) status, making donations to the charity tax-deductible.

Sarah Cuzner said, “Now that Community Smiles has DGR status, we anticipate being able to raise literally 10 times as much money this year as we did last year. This will help Community Smiles get its Indigenous sports scholarship program off the ground, which will provide sporting opportunities for members of the Indigenous community who may not otherwise have those opportunities.”

The Empired team focused on injecting warmth into the site to reflect Community Smiles’ values, and to make it more accessible and easier to use. The site makes it easier to communicate effectively with stakeholders, solicit donations, reduce advertising expenditure, and avoid the environmental impact of printed advertisements and flyers.

The team behind the new website is made up of graduates, who were pleased to have an opportunity to give back to the community through a project they could sink their teeth into. The Community Smiles team was delighted at the professionalism, business acumen, and interpersonal skills demonstrated by Empired’s graduate team.

Sarah Cuzner said, “It’s rare to experience such a positive and seamless working relationship when dealing with a large organisation. The Empired team adjusted to ensure that we worked smartly and collaboratively based on our preferred way of working. The graduates were lateral thinkers with client-facing skills and problem-solving abilities, which is not a skillset you can easily teach. The result was a fantastic working relationship that delivered exactly what we needed.

“Moreover, the team identified opportunities to implement tools that would help future-proof the charity. We didn’t know what we didn’t know and the team was outstanding in working with us in partnership. Many companies will meet your requirements but the Empired team pushed us to be better in a respectful and exciting way. This was a unique working relationship that has developed massively significant benefits for Community Smiles.”

Tony Burke, practice lead, digital and experience design, NSW, Empired, said, “The Empired graduates saw this project as a great opportunity to take responsibility and ownership over a project that had real-world benefits for people in need. Working on the Community Smiles project gave the graduates invaluable experience and let them stretch their skills with the support of the senior team. For Empired, it’s important and highly valuable to be able to offer this kind of experience to our graduates while also giving back to the community.”
