The Opportunity:

The Information Security Consultant will be responsible for advising our clients on information security practices, business requirements and information security standards. This is an audit, compliance and governance role with a in-depth technical knowledge of related security systems and solutions.

Your main day-to-day responsibilities will be to understand and deliver on our clients Security requirements:

Collaborating with team members, you will act as the first point of contact to articulate security requirements, taking the current and future technology landscape into consideration.

You will influence vendor evaluations during acquisitions to ensure security criteria are addressed in proposed solutions.

You will provide mentorship on security related activities within various stages of the managed services lifecycle. This includes advising on requirements for activities such as security architecture design, security reviews and adherence to process and standards.

Following identification of security risks related to technology architecture designs, you will advise on pragmatic improvements to mitigate these.

Working together with management, you will consult on the development and documentation of security policies, in the event you identify suggested areas of improvement.

  • Collaborating with your team members to maintain standards and architectural patterns, to achieve our common goal of maintaining a framework we can consistently apply across our clients.
  • Assist with growing the effectiveness of security awareness training programs to uplift the overall security culture.
  • Work with various partners to identify information asset owners and classify data and systems.
  • Tracking of security governance metrics
  • Drive security compliance analysis activities (e.g. ISO 27000, Privacy Act, NIST) to assist with review of proposed projects.

The key attributes that define your profile include:
  • Broad authority of knowledge in information security and practices.
  • Good social and consultative skills.
  • Committed to staying up to date on the latest cyber threats by attending a number of industry forums.
  • Deep understanding of security principles associated with applications, networks, internet, email, operating systems, firewalls, VPN's, databases, virus management, intrusion detection, cryptography and e-commerce, with high level expertise/specialisation in several of these fields.
  • In possession or progression in of one or more of the following certifications: CISSP, CISM, SABSA, SANS.
  • A general understanding of current legislation and precedence governing security and privacy.
  • Advanced analysis, problem solving, and business relationship skills.
  • Proficient written skills.
  • 4 - 7 years of experience in IT, with 3+ years experience in an Information Security, Risk Management or Audit, coupled with relevant Formal education or certification.
  • A bachelor's degree in information systems, information security, where we will consider equivalent work experience.
